Hamster |
| Q: My hamster is acting weird and not as playful anymore. He is only a year and a half old. His skin is very dry and his coat is not as silky as it used to be. I think he might be sick. Can you please let me know what might be going on? Do you think he may need to be examined? Melanie A: Melanie, one important hamster fact to keep in mind is that their average life span is only eighteen to twenty four months. This means your hamster is now considered geriatric and may be getting toward the end of his short life. Symptoms such as a dull hair coat and decreased activity level can be attributed to aging changes such as organ failure or cancer. I don't mean to seem pessimistic, only honest about his prognosis. I do think you should have your hamster examined to rule out any simple causes for his symptoms. Good luck and good pet parenting. |
